Course Description :

The Salon is an opportunity for thoughtful Jewish learners to exchange ideas in an intimate home setting. No prior Jewish education, faith, or observance commitments are necessary.

 

The Salon is intended to be a non-dogmatic and non-judgmental space to discuss big ideas.

 

Prior to each salon, participants will receive an article covering an issue of great significance to the contemporary Jewish community, which will then be unpacked, debated, and discussed in a safe and friendly environment. The objective is to create a community of learners who are educated about the most complex and pressing issues within Judaism today.

About the Instructor:

Rabbi Efrat Zarren-Zohar is the Executive Director of the Center for the Advancement of Jewish Education (CAJE), the nonprofit that catalyzes and accelerates the advancement of Jewish education in Miami and serves as the educational partner of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation. An organizational leader and educator, Efrat served as Director of Adult Learning at CAJE for 13 years prior to assuming the ED position. Born in Belmont, Massachusetts, Efrat was active in her synagogue and Zionist summer camp throughout her childhood. She lived in Israel for two years, studying at the Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion and The Hebrew University. She regularly speaks, writes and teaches about Judaism. Under Efrat’s leadership, the Melton School of Miami was chosen from among 50+ schools internationally to receive The Florence Award for Outstanding School of the Year in January 2015, and in 2019, CAJE’s Teen Department was awarded a Covenant Grant. Efrat graduated with Honors from The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where she helped found the Reform Chavurah and then was asked to serve as the first Program Director at The University of Michigan Hillel. She is married to Avi Rosenberg and has one son, Matan, and three stepchildren, Tali, Gabi and Eli.
