Elijah the Prophet is woven into Jewish life—sung at Havdalah, welcomed at the Passover Seder, and honored at the brit milah. His presence fills the Haggadah, the Talmud, and countless tales, portraying him as a messenger of hope and redemption. One day, tradition says, he will return to bring ultimate peace. But why? What’s so special about Elijah?

Course Description:

From prophets to rabbis, visionaries to rebels, this course brings to life the extraordinary figures who safeguarded and transformed Jewish tradition across the centuries. Meet Elijah, the ever-present guest at our bris and seder; Ezra and Nehemiah, the leaders who rebuilt Jerusalem’s Jewish community and reshaped religious life; Elisha ben Abuyah, the tragic Talmudic sage turned apostate; and Rabbi Meir and Beruriah, the brilliant husband-and-wife duo whose wit and wisdom still inspire. Through their stories, we’ll explore the courage, creativity, and conviction that have kept the Jewish flame burning.
