Dive into the world of Yiddish music and culture, exploring vibrant songs, stories, and their historical significance while singing and learning together!

Course Description :

Join us for a virtual musical journey through the vibrant world of Yiddish songs! In this 2-week mini-course, we’ll explore everything from lively labor anthems to soulful lullabies, tangos to holiday tunes, all while diving into the rich history, culture, and language behind them. Each session features a new song with lyrics, translations, and a bit of storytelling magic. You’ll even get to sing along, no prior Yiddish or singing experience required! This course combines music, history, and fun, highlighting how these songs built community and survived through hardship—plus, the joy of singing together.

About the Instructor:
 
 
Alejandra Czarny The singer and song-writer Alejandra Czarny, has been singing and playing Spanish and Yiddish songs since she was a teenager. Originally from Argentina, where she hosted her own Jewish music radio program, Alejandra has for the last 22 years lived in South Florida. Throughout her career she has recorded a total of three CDs, the first two of which—“Songs about Songs” and “Under the White Stars”—include Yiddish songs and several original compositions. She has performed this repertoire regularly throughout Europe and the Americas in a number of festivals and concerts. More recently, Alejandra released her third CD, "Viene Siendo Tiempo," which is made up entirely of her own compositions. In her work, Alejandra employs her extensive background as a music therapist by, for example, facilitating singing-therapy groups as well as teacher training programs.
